In her book Feeling and Form (Scribner, 1953) Langer writes, “The tangible form has a compliment of empty space that it absolutely commands, that is given with it and only with it, and is, in fact, part of the sculptural volumes. The void enfolds it, and the enfolding space has a vital form as a continuation of the figure.“ p. 88
